What is a Pre-Purchase Inspection?

pre-purchase inspection is a type of inspection performed on a pre-owned vehicle before you buy it. During a pre-inspection check, technicians thoroughly inspect the vehicle you are considering buying. An inspection can tell you if there are any heavy wear and tear, so you’ ll know if you need to replace parts soon. You can use this information to renegotiate your buying price or avoid a bad sale altogether.

Why should you get one?

A car is one of the largest purchases most people will make, a home being the largest for most people. Unlike a home there is no formal inspection, escrow, or due diligence. With a used caryou purchase it and it’s yours, in California there is no “Cooling-Off Period” once you pay for the car and drive away it is yours. That law includes both private party and dealer sales. This means If you have a mechanical problem or other unexpected repair you will be responsible for the cost.

What does it include?

Our technicians will provide you with a full written report including pictures or videos of any pending repairs we may find. A full computer diagnostic print out of your vehicle noting any codes or services due. A complete road and safety test, system performance test including all major components. As well as a visual inspection of the overall vehicle condition.

How long does it take?

Although the full inspection takes approximately 2 hours with an appointment. We also work with Used car dealer and car lots to perform this inspection on your behalf before you buy.

Smog certificate, know the law.

If you are purchasing a used car in California, it is the seller’s responsibility to provide a smog certificate if the car is over 4 years old. That means if you are purchasing a used car from a private party or dealer that is more than 4 model years old the seller must provide you with a current (less than 90 days old) smog certificate showing the vehicle PASSED a California emissions test.
